Skills Assessment

Australia needs skilled and qualified workers. Candidates applying under the General Skilled Migration pathway and Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) for permanent residency will need a skills assessment through the relevant assessing body. This assessment is necessary to ensure that an applicant has the appropriate level of qualification, competency and work experience to undertake the nominated activity.

Some of the more common skills assessing authorities can be found below:

Our team is experienced in assisting applicants to prepare and lodge skills assessments in the correct format to ensure that the application has the best possible chance of approval.

It is common for many tradespersons to have completed many years experience and possess the practical ability to undertake their trade competently but do not have the qualifications to obtain a positive skills assessment for migration purposes.

Carman & Associates has an affiliated network of Australian Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that can facilitate onshore and offshore skills assessments of tradespersons through a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process.

The RPL process will consist of a competent subject matter expert and assessor observing the applicant in their place of work undertaking the skilled activity, assessing an applicant’s previous work experience and portfolio of work, conducting a technical interview and in certain circumstances provide gap training in the Australian Standards and regulatory requirements.

Successful applicants that complete the RPL process will be issued with an Australian Qualification issued under the Australian Qualification Training Framework (AQTF) that will be recognized in Australia.

Most trade occupations in Australia are licensed and many state governments require applicants to have an Australian qualification before a license is issued.
